The biggest threat to civilization now other than nuclear war is climate change. Climate change is happening NOW and progressing at a exponential rate. Currently the effects are minor compared to what will soon come and yet are considered catastrophic.
“Green Energy” will not save civilization. “Green Energy” is not even truly “Green” since it is based on technology which is itself highly polluting. It is not going to be the panacea that is being promised and promoted by the government. The transition cannot and will not be completed in time.

Some of the difficulties with green energy -
1 Solar and wind are intermittent and current estimates for production capacity is based upon the current climate conditions. There is no gaurantee that those conditions will continue and most likely will get worse. Cloud cover may increase rendering solar panels ineffective and storms get more severe with increased wind which will destroy wind turbines.
2 Currently the only reliable system for backup storage from wind and solar are batteries for a reliable continuously available supply power for the grid. Batteries are labor and energy intensive to produce and difficult to recycle. The minerals required need to be mined and processed, again labor and energy intensive and environmentally destructive.
3 The entire electric grid for the US and elsewhere will need major reconstruction to accommodate the transition. A daunting expensive and task in itself, requiring years to complete.
