Who do you live for?

Life doesn’t matter. I mean this in the best way possible. We are all going to die one day, so live how you want to.

When it really comes to it, our lives as a concept alone simply do not matter. I could die this very second and in a couple hundred years i wont be remembered. I could also live a long, beautiful life and die peacefully at 90 years of age. I will still be forgotten in a couple hundred years. I may be great, my ideas or actions may be remembered but the actual important things about me as a person won’t be remembered by anyone. Nobody will remember how i love pink, what my favourite school subjects are, that i like to paint sometimes or how i have a laugh that sounds terribly alike to guinea pigs squealing.

I know this can often seem like a bitter take on life, but i think it’s the best way to view life. To me, it acts almost as a final security blanket, telling us that it’s okay to be who we are. Nobody will remember anyways. To be yourself is what i believe in the most.

Although there are many people who i don’t like and don’t agree with, i still think they should remain true to themselves. This doesn’t mean that i think they should never change- because we all change. Change is fundamental to grow, however you should never change or try to change for somebody else.

I know many people say they’re going to change so they can love their partner or family properly. I believe that if they do truly change, they were doing it for themselves. Not in a selfish way, but because they saw that those people that they thought they were “changing for” are the people they want to be around in life. Thus, they changed so that they could keep those people in their lives and not just because those people wanted them to change. I believe this is the way it should be, change for yourself and never for others.

You should put yourself first always. People often view you as selfish if you say this, I disagree. I believe that if you truly love someone then making them happy and being able to see them being happy, can also be a form of putting yourself first. As a poor example, i’ll frequently make my Dad a coffee even though I’d rather get my own things from the kitchen and just go upstairs. However, I know he will appreciate the coffee so I make him one anyways, and by doing that for him I am -by extension- also putting myself first as I get to see someone I love being happy.

I fully believe that if you remain true to yourself and always put yourself first that you’ll be met with the greatest life you could get.

It may appear contradictory for me to believe that other peoples opinion that should be ignored because I definitely do ask people for advice on things. However, I ask for advice from people that I value and who I think are good people. I will never take advice from someone who doesn’t possess qualities or habits that I can admire. I also wouldn’t take criticism from anyone that I wouldn’t take advice from. Therefore, by sometimes listening to advice from others, it is still my own opinion that I am seeing as being of importance. I think this is what everyone should do. Why would anyone ever take advice from someone they don’t want to be like? I don’t understand how this could ever make sense to anyone. You’ll never end up how you want to by taking advice from people who aren’t living a life you would want.

If you don’t listen to yourself, who are you listening to? You can never be your self if you can’t even value your own opinions, thoughts, and feelings over other peoples. If your fear of others not liking you is what holds you back from voicing your thoughts, I hate you the most. You’re the only person you definitely have for life, so why hide who you are?

Do what you want to do. It’s always better to regret doing or saying what you thought was right than to regret not doing or saying anything at all. If you do it, at least then you will have an answer. Why choose to live your whole life living in regret and being unaware? Because you’re too scared to speak up?

So many people are going to end up with a life they didn’t want, don’t be one of them.

If you do what you want to do, you’re so much more likely to get what you want out of life. If you get the life you ,want no matter what that is, are you really going to regret anything you did to get there? If you have a successful career that you enjoy, a happy marriage, family, money, or just whatever you want out of life, are you really going to care about how others perceive it? As long as you’re happy, who cares what others have to say about it? If you’re who you want to be, and honest about it, then the only people around you should be the ones who love and appreciate you for who you are. I definitely think that’s worth losing a few people for.

You’re not going to die just because someone judges you, and most people won’t even tell you if they don’t like you, so stop caring so much.
