Little Things, Big Impacts: How Sexism Sneaks Into Our Daily Lives

Ever notice how women are judged for things men do every day—and somehow it’s normal for men? That’s sexism sneaking into our lives.

I saw a tweet a few days ago that said, “If women dominate a particular course, the course is useless.” You can see how sexism is at play—yet when men dominate a course, it’s considered serious and prestigious.

Or take secondary school, for example: teachers are always surprised when a girl excels and instinctively say, “Boys are always better at maths than girls.” The stereotypes never stop.

Then there’s the workplace: many men assume women slept their way to the top—and I’m always wondering, who told y’all men don’t also sleep their way up?

Meanwhile, boys’ bad behavior is brushed off as “boys will be boys,” but if a girl acts the same way, she’s judged harshly. Take cheating, for example: when a man cheats, it’s often shrugged off as normal, even expected—but if a woman cheats, she’s immediately labeled a “whore.” This double standard is classic sexism, showing how society judges the same actions completely differently based on gender.

Sexism is everywhere—in jokes, in casual comments, in expectations. Girls are constantly reminded to shrink, tone down, or play it safe, while boys are encouraged to claim space and take risks. And the worst part? Most of this sexism is invisible until it hits you personally.

It’s time we stop normalizing it. It’s time we start calling it out. And next time you hear “boys will be boys,” ask yourself: what would happen if it were a girl?

With love
