Spring is finally here

and over the past month I’ve been doing a LOT of creative spring cleaning. Specifically, I moved into a studio. I will do a studio tour SOON, but I wanted to share a big and surprising effect of expanding into this space, which is the sudden, visceral realization that my creativity exists more than one day at a time?? Here is a peek into my state of mind over time via comics.

studio day 1
studio day 2
studio day 5 - cautious optimism?
studio day 10 - a sudden and confounding sense of hope

I’ve always carried this sense that there is a doom clock attached to my creative life, ie) whether it will exist tomorrow is entirely predicated on what I do with it today. I think because creativity has always taken a backseat to more existential things like “making money at your actual job which allows you to survive” and “the well-being of people that rely on you.” This sense has been amplified by the fact that I’m now juggling multiple creative projects with very high personal stakes. So even though (or probably because) i’m “living the dream” as a full-time creative, the doom has never felt stronger.
