Forgive my extreme tardiness on writing about a favorite subject: grappa.
Somehow, after almost two years of living in its unofficial birthplace, I’ve yet to put finger to key and elucidate the reasons why this spirit deserves its due. If you’ve ever sat with me around a bar counter or dinner table, then it’s likely you’ve heard my pitch. If you’ve ever sat around my kitchen table after a meal, then, well… you already know. I apologize for the flight of fancy fluted glasses that must have fenced you in as you tried to leave. Sure, I’ll try just a little, you might have said.
You didn’t know what you were in for.
And yet, I don’t want to apologize for bringing the artistry of grappa to light. For changing minds and hearts with how this beverage isn’t the caustic lighter fluid your Italian uncle may have passed around at Christmastime. It’s truly the soul of wine in a glass. When done right, it’s like Pinocchio’s Blue Fairy waves her magic wand down your tors…
