Dearest beautiful person,
I hope that you’re well. We’re on the other side of the shortest day of the year here in South Australia and on the other side of my daughter’s first birthday. Last week we had some glorious sunny days which I made the most of by visiting three different zoos to celebrate her birthday and first word (other than Mum and Dad) - bird!
At Cleland Wildlife Park last Tuesday, I had a perfect day wandering around the park listening to Nina saying ‘bird’ over and over and pointing at all the birds she saw. It’s heartbreaking that as my daughter becomes so much more aware of the feathered friends that populate our world, a deadly bird flu has been detected in Australia. The bird flu could have disastrous consequences for Australian bird species who are already at risk of extinction. Birdlife Australia is working hard to minimize the impact on our birds and I would love to help by donating 50% of the profits from my online store to the charity this month.

On the topic of birds, my bird painting classes are coming up at The Cedars. They are super beginner friendly and we'll be exploring a range of techniques using ink and watercolour. The new Heysen Gallery will be open and we will be toasty and warm in the new art-making space (how exciting)!
I’ve been back teaching in Schools this month too which I’ve enjoyed so very much. I’m definitely keen to more School/Kindy/Library visits now that Nina can happily hang out with her grandparents.
My little freebie this month is something to do on the long cold nights to relax, maybe whilst also listening to music or an audiobook. It’s a grey version of my winter finch artwork that you can print and follow the lines with fine liner pens. My paid subscribers will receive a PDF book with all 4 of the birds this month as thanks.
