Ironwood may have been the defining milestone of recent months, but development across the Zcash ecosystem hasn’t slowed down. During this week’s Arborist Call, contributors highlighted steady progress across core infrastructure, wallets, networking, and developer tooling as the ecosystem shifts its focus from deploying Ironwood to building on top of it.
Zebra released three new patch versions with performance and security improvements.
Ironwood support continues expanding across wallets and infrastructure providers.
Zallet moves closer to its first stable release following a successful security audit.
Crosslink continues rapid development ahead of its August workshop.
Work on Dynamic Fees has resumed now that Ironwood deployment is largely complete.
Since the previous Arborist Call, the Zebra team has released three patch versions, bringing improvements across consensus validation, networking, transaction verification, and RPC performance.
Recent work also strengthens the peer-to-peer network itself, with better peer management, improved handling of banned nodes, additional outbound peer connections, new connection lifecycle metrics, and integration with the zec.rocks DNS seeder.
While many of these changes happen behind the scenes, they contribute to a healthier and more resilient network for node operators and users alike.
Although Ironwood has already activated, migration work continues throughout the ecosystem.
Recent WalletD releases introduced full Ironwood support alongside several stability improvements, while infrastructure providers such as zec.rocks and Stardust have already completed their upgrades.
At the same time, several core Rust libraries—including zcash_primitives and zcash_client_backend—received Ironwood-compatible releases, helping wallet developers continue migrating toward Zcash’s Rust-based infrastructure.
Development also continues on Zodl’s privacy-preserving migration workflow.
Development of Zallet continues at a rapid pace.
The project recently released Beta 2, with another beta expected soon. A comprehensive security audit has now been completed, with no critical issues identified, and the resulting improvements have already been incorporated into the codebase.
The team also received valuable feedback from mining pool operators, helping refine the wallet ahead of its first stable release.
Crosslink continues shipping updates at an impressive pace, averaging roughly one release per week.
The latest Season 2 release focuses primarily on synchronization reliability and overall network performance ahead of the Crosslink Workshop scheduled for August 26, where contributors will present the next phase of the project.
The team also confirmed that its validator slashing tool has already been successfully deployed, allowing inactive validators to be removed and Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus to resume as intended.
With the majority of Ironwood implementation work now complete, developers have resumed work on Dynamic Fees.
Current efforts focus on wallet priority lane integration, median-based fee estimation, and coordination with wallet developers. Together, these improvements aim to make future Zcash transaction fees more adaptive to changing network conditions.
Although this week’s Arborist Call was relatively short, it highlighted an important transition for the ecosystem.
With Ironwood now deployed, development is increasingly focused on optimization rather than activation. Improvements to wallets, networking, developer libraries, and infrastructure continue laying the foundation for the next generation of Zcash software.
