If you subscribed here a while ago, you may have forgotten this newsletter existed. Fair enough. For a long time, I mostly used it to repost things I had written elsewhere, then let it go quiet again.
I’d like to make it a bit more useful.
The newsletter has a new name now: Pomegranates and Pipelines. The pomegranate felt like the right symbol. It is familiar across the region, from Baku and Tbilisi to Ankara, Yerevan, and Central Asia. You see it in markets, on tables, in carpets, paintings, and stories. Pipelines are the other half of it. They are part of the infrastructure, politics, energy, and borders that shape so much of this part of the world.
That is more or less what I want to write about here: the everyday and the geopolitical, side by side. Some short notes, some longer pieces, probably a few book recommendations, and the odd observation I can’t quite fit anywhere else.
No fixed schedule, and no paywall. I’ll write when I have something I think is worth putting in your inbox.
