Spring in Kenmore

Buffalo was in peak form this week. Everyone, and it really felt like everyone, was out. Days like these make me love this region of the world. Buffalo to Toronto and everywhere in between. Hell yeah.

Anyway - I have been writing a long-form piece about an old FM radio project we used to partake in. I’ll post that next week most likely, but wanted to give a few studio updates since it’s been a minute (month).

I tried to cool off on doing too many additions as they really just take away from actually making stuff. However, I did want to change a couple things to give the place a small refresh.

Indeed, the door got painted. I had tussled with the idea of going with blue, or even green, but yellow won out. Made the most sense to me. Hung up Jake’s sign, too. Jake has painted a few things for us over the last couple years. Such a great artist. Get something done by him!

I also printed some skateboards over the last couple weeks. The idea is there but the print is off. Still learning it all and enjoying the process. I found the printing rig I originally built to be totally lacking in decent functionality. Super clunky and it felt like too much had to “go right” for it to really work. Re-built it last week and… well, it’s still a bit clunky, but I think it’ll be a success.

Sidenote: The tricky part with printing skateboards (beyond the shape) is that each skateboard has a different wheelbase. The wheelbase is the measurement of space between the trucks, commonly anywhere between 13.75”-14.5”. Because of this variance, the skateboard-mount needs to be adjustable to accommodate different sizing.

One of the turntables went down (convenient timing with the radio piece I’ve been writing) after a solid 6 or so year run. Weighing if I should attempt a fix or just buy a new one.

Last but not least, I had some member cards printed for the Delaware Park Golf Club. DPGC is a fun side project I started last year as an excuse to make some merchandise for my “home course”. I certainly understand, and mostly agree with, the disdain the golf course receives from many people. There are hyper-public courses in Europe that operate on a similar premise to Delaware, but allow people to just walk and enjoy the park in the same way the golfers do - just be cautious of the golf balls. Delaware should really operate the same way. It’s such a beautiful space that I never even got to see fully until I started playing.

The cards are really for anybody. You don’t need to be an actual member or even play golf. More so about the spirit.

OH. I also crossed the finish line on my near 6-year run at Evans Bank as Art Director/Designer. That really deserves its own post, but we’ll see. Never pictured I’d work for a bank that long, but I am very proud of what I got to make there. Below is me just minutes before leaving for the final time.
