My Old Friend

HEED THE SIGNS AND WARNINGS.

There is a danger that lurks ahead

Things not yet processed

Understanding not yet granted

pain not yet had

We go anyways...

Fearlessly into the unknown we go.

The dream is good and just

the process that’s required is anything but

there’s pain and sacrifices... more than any man can bear.

It’s taking and costing twice as much

this can’t be fair

Everything in me begs to quit and forget

So I peel myself out of bed again

The sun still not up and my pride still beat down

Can I really achieve it? and if so... when?

My mind seeks for ease and comfort

Give me a screen, a nightcap, one more reason to stay down

the soul begs and pleads

something deeper within me... something that cannot be ignored

Guiding me back on track... but I’d rather ignore it

there’s something else in me that has become addicted to suffering

something else in me that prefers the pain of weakness more than the pain that comes with greatness

My feet hit the floor

I open the ancient book written long before

The Word of life speaks to the soul deep within me as if he was a father speaking to his son

The ground in which ease and comfort stand on begins to shake

The idols of my very own mind begin to break

I have a history with you... My old friend

There you are with me, again
