Stolen Phone? Here Is the Checklist I Wish Everyone Had Written Down First

You know you should have a plan if your phone is stolen. Most people would admit they could not write it from memory right now.

That is not a character flaw. It is just a topic nobody wants to think about until it happens. So this episode does the thinking for you, in one calm pass.

Two halves

  1. Prep while life is normal: Find My or Find My Device, screen lock, backup, 2FA backup codes, IMEI or serial, carrier numbers saved, browser sign-in tested.

  2. Reaction if the device is already gone: locate and lock, wipe if it makes sense, call the carrier, then protect accounts in order.

Four buckets when it happens

Locate and lock. Carrier if you need to stop SMS and calls. Wipe if the risk on the device is worse than losing tracking. Accounts, with email first, because email resets everything else.

Phones first, not phones only

Carriers and text-message security are why the episode centers on phones. If a laptop or tablet was in the same bag, the account steps still apply.
