I was raised Catholic. I went to Catholic boarding school. I was taught Christ each waking hour. In troubled times, early manhood, the mantra taught was insufficient; the mantra was negative, “Don’t do this.” I believed in God, Christ, but it was wrapped in falsehood. It was not truth. It had no energy, no ability to save.
In troubled times, I was lost in despair. I traveled most of the North and South American continent, did many things. I concluded life was a joke. What was it for, what would give it meaning, what accomplishment was worthwhile… if, at the end, you died? I was at the edge of the suicide cliff.
Then, in desperation, reading a book, I opened myself to Christ, and he filled my senses with his presence. I have never felt such joy.
I was transformed; my foundation was Christ. His philosophy, his Kingdom, was my foundation.
I had a profound hunger for the prophets and mystics, the Bible. One of the first things I did was to realize I was a Jew and buy a Star of David to wear around my neck.
Christ was a Jew.
Paul was a Jew; the first followers of Christ were Jews.
Christ’s whole life spent in Israel. “He came amongst his own, his own rejected him.” The leaders, high priest, and subordinates, tried him; they called him a blasphemer; instigated his death.
I made a comment on Substack. I think it was about troubled times in the US. Revolution rearing it’s ugly head. Someone replied with “Doctor Zhivago.”
I realized that I had not read the book since the early 70’s. The movie was captivating, the cinematography superlative, especially the ice-covered dacha. Laura’s theme was haunting and the love story well told. It was hard to capture the suffering of the Russian Revolution, that was a unique suffering.
I am sorry for the history that engulfed the Russian people for so prolonged a period of time: two wars, revolution, civil war, Stalin, and Gulags; so many killed, so many starved, so many tortured. A complete breakdown of everything, a nihilism never achieved anywhere else, the rule of the people, the Soviets, a stupidity that obliterated the past, wrecked havoc on the present and destroyed hope in the future. It was the reign of evil, and it lasted interminable decades.
You would hope to get insight into the senselessness of the era. A world gone berserk.
I have read Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Solzhenitsyn. They were, to me, all, such great writers of literature. Writers of life, artists of truth. Education should lead to wisdom, putting iterations of truth together. Each of these writers had his story, his truth, and between the three you get a synthesis. You could surmise the unique suffering of the Russian people.
They call good literature fiction. Tolstoy vehemently excoriated Shakespeare for fictitious fabrications. The Bible is literature. Some call it the word of God. Good literature is the story of simple life written by men tapping into the inspiration of God; putting their truth into a story, telling it as Hemingway says, “as true as possible, reaching the fifth dimension”, a spirit higher than themselves. Something AI can never do, commune with God by excelling, diligently perfecting a talent, for the welfare of all.
A building is built step by step, piece by piece. Truth is announced by individuals, step by step, persons, personally following in the footsteps of Christ. Anything divorced from Christ, God, is not truth. And, sometimes, things uttered, in the name of Christ, are abominations. And, sometimes, people who are diligent, in their talents, live Christ, truth, without proselytizing the name.
Christ taught in parables; simple is profound, “To those that have ears to hear.”
It is the individual that hears. Within a group, a mob, a rapacious blindness can overcome the individual. Groups have leaders, leaders have interest, and everyone, everything becomes subservient to the articulated interests of the few. Groups are comprised of sheep, docile, easily led, seeking succor and safety.
It seems to be a tendency of people to need leadership. There are only two alternatives, “God or man.” It is a choice by each individual, “Whom will you serve?”
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.”
One of the Beatitudes is, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
There can be no peace between lies and the truth of Christ.
Followers of Christ do not belong to the mob; they belong to Christ.
It is a difficult road. It is the only worthwhile road!
We live in an incomplete world. Christ calls us to participate in its transformation. It is a sublime calling. We are the individual building blocks of such a world. We can combine our truths for strength. Our only leader is The Spirit of God.
Tolstoy wrote about the Kingdom of God within, about public opinion, opinions of individuals, formed by the truth of Christ that would transform the world.
We do not have such a public opinion. Public opinion is ruled by.“The father of all lies.” We are disparate mobs turned against one another.
So, what lessons has Zhivago taught?
Dostoyevsky was spiritual, a warning, a call to the truth. He could be called the Father of psychology. He understood human nature, the reality of Russians. Tolstoy was a grand historian in “War and Peace,” a reminder of the greatness that Russia could achieve when in lockstep with a great undertaking, the soul of Russia, the latent ability of the people. In “Anna Karenina,” he was something else, wondering about the trials of the soul, the inner torment of transgressors. He was also concerned about technology, the plight of the peasant, weaned from the land, adrift in cities, idol, useless, angry. Solzhenitsyn recounted the horror, the depths of depravity that common people could inflict on their neighbors.
Could it happen in the US?
We have a great ability to inflict depravity on our neighbors. It smothers the news everyday. We have murdered, disfigured, and destroyed to feed The Military, Industrial, Congressional, Spy Complex. The educational system has raped Americans to the tune of 1.6 trillion. Financial institutions and corporations own everything, including the government. The 80’s, the Age of Greed, raped American manufacture for assets. The finance people, the speculators, the connivers, the hedge fund private equity people, the few, have bought America. They are now going after insurance equity, private pension funds and 401k’s. They want everything. They are turning everything into Potterville. The George Bailey’s are dead. These people are insatiable, they feed on corruption and depravity, they have bought Congress; the “Best and Brightest” are nothing more than sycophants. Everyone sells the “incomparable”, their righteous selves, for “Thirty Pieces of Silver, a Bowl of Oatmeal, relinquishing the inheritance due the sons of God, those that love God and love their neighbor.
The United States is “Sodom and Gomorra.” The United States is controlled by liars, by the sons of Satan. “You will know them by their fruits.”
So, what are the lessons of “Doctor Zhivago”?
In the forward it says many of the names are made up, even strange to Russian speakers and the Western Siberian towns are fictional. Still, on Kindle, you look up stuff, streets in Moscow, then museums and highlighted sights. The museums are exquisite, filled with artifacts from the gilded Czar age, what opulence by the few; it is mind boggling.
Eighty-five percent of Russians, before the 1850’s were serfs, a euphemism for slaves. They were bound to the land, owned by a Boyer, where they were born. They lived in villages on that land, had their own governments and provided by themselves. They had a simple faith. They suffered silently, with patience; they produced the sustenance for all of Russia; they propped up a decadent system in a form of unconscious bliss from the joys inherent in the simple life, nature and community. They lived as their ancestors had lived for a thousand years.
Then modernity happened, industrialization; the powers needed manpower in the cities and mines. They freed the serfs; 85% of Russians were unhinged. Then Marxism reared up. Utopia, a new system. I guess it played its part in the progress of man, but time and again it has proven to be a failure. Even the Czarist system was better. Yet, people still believe in it. There are people in the US that preach it. In the US, it has been practiced for 80 years, ever since the initiation of the income tax, the growth of government, the rich ruling class has doled out socialism with taxation that comes from the working middle class. They have destroyed the middle class, control the masses with the dole, and all things, every concept, law and program funnels created government money into the pockets of the rich. Americans have become serfs to avarice and debauchery.
That is what The Epstein case is all about, organized, sadistic, debauchery among the rich, the top 1%.
The brokers of money, the greedy financiers organized and enabled Jeffery Epstein for pleasure and nefarious interest.
It is a metaphor for the whole corrupt manipulation of the American system of government.
At its heart Mossad and the CIA.
A Jewish man, on Substack, asks the question, “Do Rabbis believe in God?”
Do fundamentalist Christians believe in God? Is there any Congressman that believes in God?
Israel has been conducting a genocide, almost two years, eradicating, systematically two million innocent people. 80% of the Jews in Israel and abroad support this. The Trump administration has arrested people that speak out about it, colleges have lost funds and students have been coward by threat of expulsion.
Children lying with intestines hanging out, arms blown off while soldiers scoff. Yet, intellectuals pervert their talents in attempts to rationally justify it.
It’s visual evil. The United States perpetrates it. Anyone who is silent condones it. It makes a lie of all the rhetoric plastered in legacy news; it proves the lies that pervade all things, especially people’s minds.
You stupid people! There is judgement, justice, retribution.
Everyone dies. Whatever debauchery brings satisfaction is short.
How can we be guilty of such things? It is the history of man divorced from God.
What lessons do we learn from Zhivago?
Passions gone wild creat a savage man. Gordon, in the beginning, Lara in the end, philosophize about the origins of anti Jew, the stupid persecution. It’s a mindset of the Jews. Now, after Gaza, everyone hates Jews.
At some point, Israel will cease to exist, it is founded on sand, a fundamental lie and 70 years of bloodshed shows it. “Live by the sword, die by the sword.”
Christ was a Jew, the Jews rejected Christ; Jews hate Christians.
Paul was a Jew, a Pharisee; Paul killed Christians; Paul thought it was his duty to kill Christians, that it was Gods will. On the road to Damascus, because of a miracle of intervention, he discovered that Christ was God.
The Jews are a mob, a very worldly successful full mob, worldly success is all they have because they reject Christ, God. Their religion is a sham, a fabricated lie that adulterates their entire being.
They can’t even recognize the horror of their actions; they repeat “Never again” and perpetrate horrors over and over again, “You will know them by their fruits” Jews are a horror.
We should all pray for a miracle, the conversion of the Jews, The restoration of Truth in Israel.
We should pray for the restoration of truth in ourselves, the restoration of God in our souls.
