Today marks one month since the Sussexes had their ultra-private visit with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the royal residence of Highgrove. The terms of the meeting were simple: No one talks about it. At all.
Sure enough, details of the visit haven’t leaked.
Yet.
In a video interview with People magazine, lifestyle guru Martha Stewart suggested that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has been blabbing about that visit during a recent dinner party attended by both women. (The revelations start at roughly 13:35 on the below YouTube link):
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it,” stated Martha Stewart.
Her comments were vague but “talking about it” seems to be referring to the long-desired meeting when Charles got to meet his grandkids for the first time in four years (assuming she confused the royal residence of Highgrove for a palace). Martha Stewart offered no other specifics but danger signs must have flashed in Montecito. Almost immediately, another story appeared in People, this time refuting Martha’s claim, stating that it was “simply untrue” according to a source who claims to have sat next to Meghan during the entire event. It suggested that Meghan had broadly stated she’d had a nice vacation in Europe.
Yet, as Martha Stewart didn’t reveal any details other than that one vague sentence, it may have been better to not respond rather than drawing out the controversy for another few days during a slow time on the royal beat. But, as with similar situations in the past, the Sussex camp was determined to have the last word.
If anything, I think Martha’s sharpest dig was how she casually dismissed Meghan’s attempt to reinvent herself. “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”
Over the weekend, the Sussexes glammed up — Meghan chose a one-shoulder Greta Constantine caped gown — for David Foster’s massive 40th anniversary gala fundraiser. There were fireworks, a red carpet, and a big concert at the harbourfront with celebs including Chad Kroeger of Nickelback and Adam Levine. Performers included CeeLo Green, Josh Groban, and The Tenors. Heck, the Snowbirds put in an appearance during the weekend’s festivities. In all, Foster’s charity raised $14.5 million on that one night to aid families of children needing organ transplants.
As the Sussexes have known Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee for years, it was fitting that they attend. Not only did the women both attend the same school in Los Angeles, but Foster helped the Sussexes find their bolthole rental mansion when they stayed on Vancouver Island in 2019 before leaving royal life. (Foster was born in Victoria.)
The glittering event must have helped staunch the disappointment that Cookie Queens, the documentary the Sussexes executive produced, did a dismal US$328,000 at the box office in its first weekend. That was enough for the No. 13 spot, behind such summer fare as a horror film titled Ice Cream Man that pulled in US$2 million for the eighth spot and CatVideoFest 2026, which made the No. 10 spot with US$568,000.
