Just a few days left for you to vote on a name for my camper. Please vote if you haven’t already! In the meantime, here are some delightful things I’ve discovered in the few weeks I’ve lived in the camper.

  • The smell of a campfire that I didn’t have to light

  • Wee chipmunks darting to and fro all day long

  • Morning sun. Evening sun. Sun at any conceivable time. Except at midnight. That would be weird. Maybe even apocalyptic.

  • Going to the grocery with a bit of leaf in my hair (I’m a real camper now).

  • Finding new and wonderful ways to organize what little I brought to my new haven.

  • A small felted otter gifted from my daughter and SIL from their recent vacation to Maine - hereby known as Otto, the Emotional Support Otter.

  • My dog, happy as a clam with all of the new smells at the campground.

  • Windows that open properly to let the fresh air in.

  • Having a place filled with just those things that I love.

  • Using one of my glass shell dishes for a tea bag and spoon rest (until now, they’ve sat on a shelf and never been used for anything).

  • Mastering how to take a shower without dousing the entire bathroom in water.

  • Figuring out how to open the shower thingie after my first shower (it’s not a curtain - what IS it?) when I feared I’d be trapped for days.

  • Remembering to check my grey and black tanks regularly and emptying them when they should be emptied (delightful in an “I know how to do this” sort of way).

  • Setting up my “home office” that is functional and brilliant.

  • Having an early morning conversation with a little boy (he must have been around 6) on a bicycle who tagged up with Lu and I on our morning walk:

Him: You’re up early (it was 7)

    Me: So are you!

Him: I just thought I’d have a nice morning ride.

Me: What a beautiful morning for a ride.

Him: Have you been here long?

Me: Not too long. How about you?

Him: I got here a few days ago.

    Me: Are you having fun?

Him: Yes. Where is your camper?

    Me: Just up here (pointing).

Him: Mine is over there (pointing).

Me: Yes, I saw you come out. It was nice to talk to you! I’m heading this way (pointing again).

Him: I’m going that way too (changing direction to match mine).

I walk and he rides in a companionable silence

Me (at my camper): Have a good day!

He waves and continues his nice ride.
