This post marks the beginning of an August break from posting, hosting groups, scheming, emailing, leading and managing this effort of the Helen Keller Spiritual Life Collaborative and all that goes with it. I’ll be offering one more live presentation this Tuesday 10 am virtually for the Fryeburg New Church Assembly, a Be Love, Be Honest, Be Useful lecture during their week of reflecting on “The real new church.” I couldn’t pass up that opportunity as discovering and dwelling in the real new church is my primary aim. You can watch live on their YouTube or Facebook Channels.
But then….it will be time for me to focus my practice of Be Love, Be Honest, Be Useful with the primary players in my every day life: my husband and sons, our cat Miso, the plants in my yard, neighbors, extended family and friends. And perhaps most of all my inner players, how 5 year old and 15 year old Sage are handling the pushes and pulls of this entrepreneurial phase of ministry, how stressed they are feeling and what might help them get what they need when we get back to it in September.
Because I leave knowing I will be back soon, excited for what is to come and suspecting that there may be some pivots ahead that I my brain can’t anticipate but that perhaps my body can prepare for.
My plans for the Fall are quite simple.
We’ll be starting a weekly 7:30 am Monday morning Be Love Devotion on ZOOM, a simple 12 minute liturgy, begins September 14th 2026.
We’ll be holding two Live Streamed Be Honest Conversations a month one on a topic of Faith and one on Justice
I’ll be welcoming the Rev. Catherine Lauber and the Rev. David Moffett for a conversation on the New Jerusalem Tuesday September 22nd 8 pm.
And I’ll be joined by April Alario on Tuesday September 29th 8 pm for a conversation on Disability Justice.
You can join each of these conversations Live to add your questions and thoughts to the conversation, or watch them later as a podcast release Thursday mornings.
And in the works is a new offering, a Be Useful Creators Circle where we gather to listen to what is longing to be created through us and share our creations with each other. We will hold an initial meeting in September with those interested in helping to co-create this space. (email Alex Gayheart, alex@helenkellercollaborative.org if you’d like to be included in that initial meeting invite.)
Alex Gayheart and I will also begin holding formal Be Useful Office Hours on ZOOM Fridays from 11-1 pm beginning September 11th if you’d like to pop in to co-create with us.
Because aside from this proposed weekly rhythm there are many other collaborations in the works, retreats, pilgrimages, cohorts, and a traveling exhibit about Helen Kellers life and faith tin development.
I hope you might feel moved to join in some of what’s emerging.
I have pre-recorded a few more episodes of Notes from the New Heaven and Altar Space so while I go quiet, those will still echo out in my absence. I hope you might find them useful to you. And as always I hope you might want to step into the circle and share your thoughts, your altars, your perspective on life and God and love and truth. For it is this circle of sharing that I long so much to create. Thank you so much to all of you who have already stepped into the circle.
Much love,
Sage
