This week on the podcast we’ve got Durand Bernarr and it’s a really fun interview. We talked about how his latest album was almost a rock album and how the cover art was on everybody's mood board. We also talked about his Grammy win, his inspirations and how he has navigated the industry as a queer man. You can listen to it here but it’s not on Youtube since it’s an audio episode.
This week is a busy one. I’ve got four interviews to research and write, three DJ gigs, two meetings and one doctors appointment! I need help!
Over the weekend I ended up buying a box of Protein Pop-Tarts (being tipsy will do that to you). I think my logic was that if I was going to buy a late night snack I’d at least buy something that at least poses to be healthy. And yes… I know that there is no such thing as a healthy Pop-Tart, that’s not the point. The point is that a Protein Pop-Tart is more unnecessary than an actual Pop-Tart.
In related news Tyga dropped a new AI assisted album under the name STARFACE and I would say that the album is the sonic equivalent of a Protein Pop-Tart. I only listened to bits and pieces of it because I it was honestly just kinda boring but it sounds like that Fenix Flexin song and that song sounds exactly like a Protein Pop-Tart. And by Protein Pop-Tart I mean completely unnecessary.
Actually instead of me wasting my time typing it here is the Instagram post that alerted me to the song’s existence.
And yes, I woke up and ate the Protein Pop-Tarts because I spent my money on them. Honestly they didn’t taste that bad but the texture was off and they made my stomach feel weird. Go figure.
Or maybe it was the salad…
Rapsody finally dropped the video for her song Apple Juice and it’s a jam. A bit of a departure record for her with more singing than rapping but definitely more of a welcome departure than not!
I did not expect to like this video as much as I do. There is something really nice about the fake video game animation and the thought put into the characters. The song is a banger too.
I feel like I already posted this but I don’t care cus it needs to be seen. Iman killed this video and the song is very dope!
It dawned on me the other day that I can’t relate to drug talk at all anymore. The spirit of the hustle used to be the thing I’d latch onto in songs where the focal point was drug related and making it by any means necessary but now it’s just kinda like… I’m a whole ass square when it comes to that world. With that said I like this song and overall I like Stove God Cooks.
Cosmo Baker has been doings record listening sessions in Philadelphia and at the last one they played Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu. He also had James Poyser come out for an interview and if you didn’t know James was instrumental in this album! I haven’t got to check the interview out yet but it’s defitely worth your time!
