If you are in the Bay Area, I hope you will join me on Thursday August 20, a week from tomorrow, for a conversation about “How to Give a Damn in the Age of AI.” The event is being kindly hosted by The SF Commons, 550 Laguna St, San Francisco.
As we put it in the event invitation:
In this talk, B. explores what care actually is and how we might live and build technology in a way that protects our ability to give a damn. Drawing on a lifetime of drumming in punk bands, he offers a unique illustration of the alternative: a life devoted to what genuinely matters to you, rather than a life of "compulsive optimization.”
After my brief talk we’ll also break out into small group discussions, with the aim of continuing to create new relationships and community oriented around the question of how to live with care in the midst of this momentous and disorienting technological transition.
Please register at our event page here.
Speaking of a lifetime drumming in punk bands, I’m drumming this Friday. Join me at this show on Friday August 14 in West Oakland at The First Church of the Buzzard.
My band VEXXYL is playing first, around 9pm. The event is a showcase for one of our most prolific and important DIY punk-metal labels in Oakland, Transylvanian Recordings (who are releasing the Vexxyl demo).
DM me for the address.
