I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the relationship between honesty and simplicity. I can work myself into a tizzy psychoanalyzing every angle until the sheer volume of variables sends me into executive freeze and months of procrastination — followed by the psyche’s classic hits to self-soothe: “this is good enough, I’m happy enough, I need to be realistic.”

But what if the most honest choice was the simplest option? Not the mental gymnastics of keeping everyone happy or convoluted yes-men group chats, but the answer that gets your whole body to relax. Soft jaw, big picture.

Here’s the thing about Sagittarius; it blows the lid off of passivity and calls you out for playing small. It gives your comfort zone a hickey and winks from across the room, as if daring you to want more. Choices based on paper merit rather than joy and purpose start to feel as thin as the card stock they’re printed on.

This is a blue moon, meaning the second full moon in a calendar month. It’s in conversation with the Scorpio transit on May 1, which pulled the curtain back and made us all more aware of our true desires. Now, Sagittarius offers the unyielding optimism necessary to act on it. With Mars in Taurus holding it down as the only planet in earth right now, the more simple a decision is allowed to feel, the more likely you are to act.

“But how do I know I’m not just running away?” The right choice won’t feel panicked and rushed, it will feel as inevitable as a sunrise. The exhale after holding your breath without realizing it. A skipped stone breaking the surface tension on the lake. Oh, that’s right, I remember. I see the big picture again. Relief like velvet, cool rain on hot skin. That’s how you know.

Does that mean it’ll feel easy? Not necessarily. Sagittarius is the reminder that our truth does not come bubble-wrapped. It can be the nip of a love bite or sharp enough to scrape bone. But many of us are conditioned to sand away the edges before we use the blade at all; namely, to clear away what no longer belongs, what doesn’t fit. What’s overgrown and choking out the life underneath.

By the time we’ve accounted for every potential outcome, the blade of truth is often too dull to do anything with. That’s how you end up in a life insulated by layers upon layers of resistance (read: doubt, uncertainty, settling, people-pleasing).

If every time you have a whisper of truth course through your body, you sand the blade for the benefit of others, to not have to face your fear, to wait until you feel ready… you’re benching yourself in your own life and calling it the responsible choice.

You have a social contract with the rest of us to put your own mask on first. Foolish, selfish, impulsive… these are characterizations levied against women who dare to prick themselves on their own blade of truth as proof of life — to choose fire, audacity, joy without strings attached. We belong to the first generation of women alive who can refuse to settle and not lose everything in the process, and this blue moon wants to know how you’re choosing to use that freedom.

The whole sky screams “we’ve got you, go do your big one.” The trines and sextiles to Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto are a reminder that the house always wins, and you’re the dealer. You have an ace up your sleeve — it’s called being honest and putting the goddamn shovel down. Sun conjunct Uranus opposite the moon is the tingle in your spine refusing to sit another day in a life you’re not actively choosing.

You’re allowed to back to the drawing board as many times as necessary until you stop chafing against the walls of your own life. Life has been flirting with you. What if you started flirting back?

To admit to your partner that you do or don’t want kids. What truth are you ripping the Band-Aid off of within your home and family right now?

5th house: You’re not an artist based on your rate of completion, but it is important that you hold yourself accountable to finishing what you make at some point. You have a contract with your muse and you’ve been bestowed ideas because she trusted you with them. What could you cross the finish line with right now, and where do you need to be reminded of the big picture of your own creativity?

6th house: The walls of your life might feel chafing, if you need a refresh or new perspective on your routines and obligations. A trip could be a temporary fix and dose of freedom that reminds you of your values. The changes you’re craving in your day-to-day life are much more attainable than you’re giving them credit to be right now. Make a list until it feels approachable again.

7th house: I’m just picturing Paul Revere riding through your relationship with his lantern announcing everything you’ve been keeping close to chest. You might feel like you can’t help but word-vomit to your partner or close friends right now. Take care of their heart, but remember that getting a truth off your chest is mutually beneficial. If you’re craving freedom, consider if that could that be in the best interest of all!

8th house: Ignoring your desires has been a lead weight wrapped around your ankles, and this full moon is ripping the curtain back and putting you on blast. It’s time to be honest about what you really want, even if it requires a big leap of faith or braving the unknown. If you need more freedom sexually, creatively, or if you desire to be met more deeply on an emotional level, now is the time to say it.

9th house: The direction of your projects, travels, or studies should feel more clear than they did six months ago. What has concluded or become more obvious? Where do you still have a hunger to acknowledge the elephant in the room in your life? You’re allowed to change your mind upon receiving new information these last six months.

10th house: Career freedom has been nipping at your heels for the last six months, so do a quick roll call of your responsibilities and how they’ve changed. Do you feel more free in work? Or are you still craving a big purge and change? I’m not saying you have to flip the whole game board over, but how do you want to define purpose with this one brief and precious life? Don’t stay in a day longer than you have to.

11th house: Some part of you yearns to see more of the world, to live a bigger life, to increase the surface radius of your community and connections. If you feel like you’ve been living under a glass jar, I need you to break the fourth wall and be honest about what you actually want your community to look like. Whether that requires a move, a friend break up, come-to-Jesus moment… The world is responding to your courage, not the other way around.

12th house: Your dreams feel limitless, and therein lies the problem sometimes. Do you have the scaffolding to support your own potential? You might be someone who needs proof of concept before making a big decision, but your dreams and subconscious urges are not based on precision, they are activated by joy, faith, and courage. What would you do if you didn’t need proof it was worth trying?
