Flemington Finals day
It’s Finals day at Flemington, a key staple of winter racing in Melbourne, and some of the races look hard to sort out despite the smaller than usual field sizes. Up north it’s Caloundra Cup day on the Sunshine Coast.
Tatt’s Tiara day
It mightn’t be the best Group 1 going around but Saturday’s Tatt’s Tiara will provide one of the mares (or filly) contesting it with an early birthday five weeks out from their official celebration. Joel’s keen on a roughie for a Victorian-based stable.
Ipswich Cup
Ipswich gets its time in the sun on Saturday with the running of their Cup, the Eye Liner for the sprinters and the Gai Waterhouse Classic for the girls named in honour of racing’s first lady. It’s a tricky circuit, but Joel reckons a Kiwi visitor will handle it fine in an undercard race.
Stradbroke Day
Queensland’s biggest race, the Stradbroke Handicap, looks as tough as ever to win in 2026 with a major piece of the puzzle being the weather. Joel and Barks have the winners sorted on this week’s podcast.
