There’s a child who lives inside of me.
She wants chocolate brownie for breakfast.
She’s wild, free, full of laughter—
the kind that bubbles up and spills over, the kind that doesn’t ask for permission.
She was silenced for a long time. Told to be quiet.
Told to be tidy. Presentable. Good.
She was told she was too much.
Too messy. Not as good as others.
But the truth is—
She is beautiful in her chaos.
Unruly. Electric.
Cackling like a witch who never really forgot who she was.
And lately, I’ve stopped trying to quiet her.
Because something has shifted.
I don’t meet her with control anymore.
I meet her with care.
Not the kind of care that restricts or corrects—
but the kind that says: I hear you… And I’ve got you.
So when she says she wants chocolate brownie for breakfast,
I don’t roll my eyes or push it down.
I make it.
But I make it in a way that holds me.
Grounds me. Nourishes me. Supports my body, my energy, my mind.
Because I am no longer choosing between being wild or being well.
I am both.
Rich, grounding, chocolatey—and built to actually hold you.
Ingredients
1 large baked sweet potato (soft and mashed)
2 eggs
1/3 cup olive oil
2 tbsp cacao powder
2 tbsp milled flaxseeds
1/2 cup plant-based protein powder
1/2 cup oats (blended into a flour if preferred)
1–2 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
Pinch of salt
Optional: dark chocolate chunks
Method
Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan 160°C) and line a small baking dish or tin.
In a blender, add the baked sweet potato (make sure it is cold), along with eggs and olive oil, and blend until glossy and well combined.
Stir in the cacao powder, milled flaxseeds, protein powder, oats, maple syrup (if using), and a pinch of salt. Mix until you have a thick, rich batter.
Fold through dark chocolate chunks if you want that extra depth and indulgence.
Pour the mixture into your lined dish, smoothing the top.
Bake for 30–40 minutes, until the edges are set, but the centre remains soft and fudgy.
Let it cool slightly before slicing—or eat it warm, straight from the dish.
Thanks for reading Willow Woolf's Substack! This post is public so feel free to share it.
And then I sit down and eat it.
Not rushed. Not distracted.
Just me, the brownie, and the quiet understanding that this is what it looks like now—
to honour desire without abandoning myself.
To let joy in, without losing the part of me that knows how to take care.
She still laughs.
But now… she’s held.
And maybe this isn’t really about brownies.
Maybe it’s about the part of you that has been told—subtly or directly—that what you want is too much, too messy, too indulgent.
Maybe it’s about the quiet ways you’ve learned to override yourself…
to be good, to be controlled, to be acceptable.
And maybe, gently, that’s ready to soften.
Not into chaos.
Not into “anything goes.”
But into something far more powerful:
Trust.
The kind where you can want something—fully—
and still meet yourself with care.
The kind where pleasure doesn’t come with guilt,
And nourishment doesn’t come with punishment.
So if there’s a part of you asking for something today—
whether it’s chocolate brownie, rest, space, expression, or softness—
See what happens if you don’t shut her down.
See what happens if you meet her there…
and choose in a way that both honours the desire
and supports the woman you’re becoming.
Because you don’t have to choose between the two anymore.
And that might be the most nourishing thing of all.
I hope this helped.
With Warmth,
Willow
