Conversation with Connecticut Congressional Candidate Joseph Perez-Caputo

What an amazing conversation I had with Joseph Perez-Caputo, a brilliant and passionate man running for the U.S. House of Representatives. Joseph aims to represent Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District. He is currently attending law school at night in New York City, and he took the time out of his stressful exam schedule to speak with little old me about his political origins and aspirations. The simple fact that he made time and space for this conversation gave me the first indication that this is a man I would like to see elected to the House.

The rest of our conversation reinforced that wish. Joseph has strong ties to Connecticut, and he is fed up with watching the corruption going on in our government. He watched his current representation fail to uphold the ethical standards necessary at this time to move the country into a direction that supports human life and flourishing. Joseph honed in on the censuring of Al Green as a pivotal moment in his political decision-making. Once he saw that his representative jumped on the bandwagon to silence a man who was standing for justice and the U.S. Constitution, his decision to run was solidified.

Beyond Joseph’s origin story, we discussed the values and ethics necessary for this moment in time, how anti-racism might play a role in the future we want to see in America, and what strategic actions he will take should he be chosen as a primary candidate and ultimately a representative.
