On the opposite side of Victoria Island from Hong Kong’s Central district lies Stanley Village. Its main attraction is Stanley Market; a collection of roughly one-hundred stalls arranged along two narrow alleys. These vendors sell everything from clothing and toys to sneakers and handbags.

What makes Stanley Market particularly notable, however, is the prevalence of counterfeit goods. While such items appear to be widely available, shopkeepers often discreetly offer them only to select customers. This practice creates a sense of scarcity while preserving plausible deniability for what seems to be large-scale counterfeit trade.
