Summer in the city uniform… black. It may seem counterintuitive, but it works. Right now, I am into cropped The Row trousers with a Charvet button-down and a striped Elder Statement sweater over my shoulders. I also love Tory’s linen caftan – so chic.
Three beauty essentials… Loulu Vitamin C Pod Power Duo, Loulu Astafusion Radiate AM Oil, and Osea Body Butter.
Party dress code… a Giambattista Valli chiffon dress.
On the beach… Eres bikini, a maxi skirt or cotton sundress and a straw hat, with my grandmother’s gold link necklace and an Egyptian Coptic medallion. I throw in baskets and beads I collect along the way - tokens of fun and good luck. I am also packing this Tory caftan which reminds me of her first season. I packed it then too!
Warm-weather workout… Pilates and hiking. You can do it anywhere. I always pack a light Arc’teryx rain jacket for summer showers — chic and practical.
The hot ticket… Shakespeare in the Park. Chanel haute couture in Paris. An invitation to Martha Stewart’s glorious gardens in Bedford and Larry Gagosian’s opening at Casa Malaparte on Capri.
The weekend away… I love a quiet summer weekend in the city, walking on The Highline when it’s in full bloom.
Go-to host/hostess gift… a large super lush Maiden’s Hair fern in a mossy pot. These Tory dinner napkins that are the epitome of preppy summer chic. Embroidered cocktail napkins from my friend Jane Scott Hodges at Leontine Linens. Or Petrossian caviar with a side of Fritos for a special occasion.
The major getaway… Sardinia by the sea and Switzerland in the mountains.
The big read… “Life with Picasso” by Francoise Gilot and Carlton Lake.
Song of the season…’Bring Your Love’ by Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter. Also, Stevie Nicks anytime, anywhere. I’m a forever fan.
Summer in the city uniform… effortless tailoring – an oversized white button-down, relaxed trousers or vintage denim, minimal sandals and beautiful sunglasses. I’ve been carrying the Lee Radziwill tote because it makes even the simplest look feel intentional.
On the beach… airy dresses, oversized hats, swimsuits under men’s shirts, woven textures, white gold jewelry. I love things that look beautiful slightly wrinkled from being in a suitcase. The Miller sandals are always in my bag because they work with everything from swim to dinner dresses.
Party dress code… intentional simplicity. Silk slip dresses, sculptural jewelry, tiny heels, bronzed skin and a bag that feels like the finishing touch. Elegant but still relaxed enough to dance in until midnight.
Go-to host/hostess gift… Beverly’s olive oil (only available in-store), linen cocktail napkins or a coffee table book that feels personal. This summer, I’m definitely gifting “Georgia O’Keeffe, Photographer.”
Three beauty essentials… a really good hydrating mist — especially in New York heat. Cream bronzer because I love skin that still looks like skin. A nourishing lip balm with a hint of color. Summer beauty should feel effortless and slightly undone.
The weekend escape… the Berkshires. There’s something incredibly calming about it….beautiful homes, incredible food, long drives with the windows down and a slower rhythm that feels restorative after the city.
The big read… I gravitate toward books that feel atmospheric in the summer. Joan Didion is a constant for me, and I’m also revisiting “The Days of Abandonment” by Elena Ferrante.
Song of the season… I’ve had “Le temps de l’amour” by Françoise Hardy on repeat. It feels nostalgic, feminine and dreamy in a way I’m drawn to right now.
Summer in the city uniform… this is my Achilles heel. I’ve been successful by sticking to a few formulas. Right now, it’s a vintage t-shirt (a current favorite is my Wigstock 87 tee), with a cool, patterned skirt and Havaianas or a statement shoe like this one from Tory.
On the beach… a bright bikini. Think neon green, zebra print, shiny metallic. I have a very Miami sensibility for swimwear. With either a button-down shirt – this gold Tory Burch one is great – or a white Cotswolds-style dress and some sort of big hat. I’ve got my eye on this.
Party dress code… balance, balance, balance. A tiny top and long skirt or pants. Or a short mini skirt with an oversized long-sleeve tee or button-down.
Three beauty essentials… a lip liner from Fara Homidi or Make Up For Ever. Sunscreen for obvious reasons; I like this U Beauty one. And edge control gel because my hair will curl up if not. The best one is from Ebin New York.

The weekend away… probably upstate to Livingston Manor. It’s kind of under-the-radar but has a bunch of cool little spots. I particularly love Corners, an art and design store owned by my friends David and Rebecca, as well as Catskill Art Space, a wonderfully programmed art gallery.
Go-to host/hostess gift… flowers, either fancy or from the bodega – the intention is the point. Or the scented ceramic pomegranate from Santa Maria Novella.
The hot ticket… Girl, Interrupted at Public Theater. Lily Allen at Madison Square Garden. Anything at the Museum of the Moving Image.
The big read… “On Morrison” by Namwali Serpell.
Summer in the city uniform… the linen Alex Mill shirt in a great color, cutoff vintage cargo shorts, a bag of some sort – probably my CDG backpack or our Weekday tote, and – don’t judge – a pair of dollar store flip flops. I know that’s so ew, but think more CBK than subway soot.
On the beach… my ideal summer vacation is where I’m in my bathing suit 75% of the time, which has made packing so much easier and my suitcase so much lighter. If I need to look somewhat presentable I’ll throw on a vintage shirt and Jutta Neumann sandals.
Three summer beauty essentials… Coqui Coqui tobacco scent – I’m not a big fragrance person until summer. I wear this after a day in the sun or post-shower before dinner. Wildly Organic Coconut Oil – I love everything coconut. When I’m not slathering this on my face, body and hair as a moisturizer, I’m putting it in my smoothies. Li Organics Obsidian face scrub – I’m a soap and water kind of guy, but once in a while I’ll look in the mirror and realize I should be less indifferent. That’s when I use this. It’s so great, 100% nontoxic and exfoliates while moisturizing.
Go-to host/hostess gift… I always aim for a piece that feels special, a bit out of the ordinary. This pitcher is 100% that. An alabaster head of lettuce! What could be more special? And I’m a huge proponent of using pitchers as vases, which this seems to do perfectly. I also love these handpainted glasses – a great blend of simplicity, charm and practicality.
The hot ticket… I was a big “Trainspotting” fan in the ’90s and an even bigger fan of the soundtrack. Underworld is playing New York in early September. To show my excitement, I got tickets to both the Friday and Saturday shows.
The weekend escape… uptown New York. I spend 90% of my life below 14th Street, so once in a while I venture uptown and visit museums and galleries. I recently saw the fantastic Matisse show at Acquavella on 75th Street. An escape both culturally and geographically.
The major getaway… five days in Ischia bookended by a few days in Rome.
The big read… I’m more about little reads this summer. The Rose Period, What Should I Wear? and Puck News are all tabs I plan on keeping open.
