This book was a real treat and one that I probably would not have picked up if not for my book club.
I loved every single character in this book, it’s the exact kind of quirky found family that I love. There’s so much humor and intelligence in this book and it really comes through in the characters. Of course the main four members of the Thursday Murder Club are the real stars of the show, but even all of the tertiary characters were given time to shine.
"Just think of everyone who isn't here, Ibbsy. Every bugger who didn't make it. And here we are, a boy from Egypt and a boy from Kent, and we made it through it all, and then someone in Scotland made us this whisky. That's something, isn't it? This is the place, isn't it, old son? This is the place."
I really liked how how this book is structured, with the birds-eye view of every storyline and point of view, and layered with Joyce’s diary entries. For a story following several different murders, it stays light and funny throughout. It’s a really engaging read because of how many murders need solving.
I always appreciate when a story is fully wrapped up at the end, even if it’s a part of a series. We get all the answers we were looking for here, but the end still leaves you intrigued and wanting more without feeling like a big cliffhanger.
All in all this book was so much fun and I can understand why the series has so many fans. I don’t read a ton of mysteries, so I wasn’t sure if this would be a series I would want to continue, but I can definitely see myself picking up the next book at some point. I’d love to spend more time with these characters and watch them solve another mystery.
