The Set Up: Veronica and Stoker are preparing a memorial exhibition for mountaineer when they uncover evidence suggesting the climber’s death was not an accident, but murder. When Princess Gisela of Alpenwald, the exhibition’s patron, suddenly disappears, Veronica is asked to impersonate her to avoid disrupting a fragile political treaty.
I think one of the biggest strengths of this series continues to be the characters, and this installment really leans into that. Veronica and Stoker feel so well-established at this point, and I loved how much more open and honest they are with each other here. Their relationship has this ease to it now that makes them incredibly enjoyable to read. Readers who are invested in their relationship (ME) will love seeing how it continues to develop.

What I loved most about this book was the impersonation storyline. Watching Veronica step into the role of a princess added such a fun and unique layer to the plot, and it created plenty of moments of tension along the way.
The pacing of this one didn’t quite hook me right away. It took me a little longer to get fully pulled into the story. But once everything was in motion I was completely invested, and the ending came together in a way that felt satisfying.
Even with the slower start, I still enjoyed this just as much as the rest of the series, and I’m definitely happy to keep going with Veronica Speedwell.
