Bowie, the beloved cat at the center of our household, is certain that he is a direct descendant of the lions on the plains of Africa. He is often on the prowl around the house, protecting his turf. He is an excellent hunter, often catching and killing any mice that get into our house. During the non-winter months of the year, Bowie will send long stretches of time on our screened-in front porch. He sits atop the perch on his scratching post to survey his kingdom.

Like most cats, Bowie spends much of his day sleeping, or laying about on his favorite blanket. Still, I think he imagines himself the great hunter resting under the shade of a tree on the savannah, waiting for the next meal to waltz by. In the late evenings, he runs wild, a ritual that my wife Kimmy has dubbed, The Catucky Derby.

Our neighbors have a pair of cats that are indoor/outdoor. The smaller of these two cats, Blossom, has taken to visiting our house she is often pampered with food and Churu treat. As I head out to work in the Sheddio each morning, Blossom is likely impatiently by our back door hoping to get in for treats and love. Every day, I invite her out to the Sheddio with me where she often sits on my lap , or naps on the floor while I work.

Dan, the other neighborhood cat is a tad more standoffish, often opting to hang in the grass. On days when the neighbors are in need of a mow, Dan often sits in the tall grass like a predator on the savannah. While Dan chills in the yard and Blossom hangs on the Sheddio, the birds in the trees around us chirp a daily symphony each morning as the sun hits the horizon. Meanwhile, the squirrels will chatter away intently, and the geese will honk loudly in the skies above as the day begins.

Bowie, our indoor cat and Blossom, the neighbor cat who comes every day to visit.
