The Open Golf championship is set to return to the Royal Liverpool in Hoylake as part of a new deal signed with the organisers which also involves Royal Birkdale near Southport.

It follows the agreement of a Memorandum of Understanding between Liverpool City Region leaders and golf’s governing body, The R&A to host The Open at least three times over the next 25 years. Read more.

The developer behind the stalled Beacon project in Hoylake has given an update on the long-delayed scheme.

David Burke of Hylgar Properties has insisted he is committed to make it work despite setbacks including the death of his father and complications including increased labour and materials costs. Read more.

Hoylake Allotments open day takes place on Sunday 19 July from 12-4pm.

It includes ‘Spot the Scarecrow’, live entertainment including Border Morris Dancers and a choir, stalls and activities including a Kids Zone.

It can be found near the railway crossing at the bottom of Sandringham Avenue.

• The summer concerts series gets under way at St Hildeburgh’s Church on Stanley Road in Hoylake this Sunday at 4pm. Over the next six weeks there will be 40 minute performances each weekend, with refreshments served. There is no admission fee but donations are requested.

• Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI lifesavers invite you to step aboard their lifeboats, check out their search and rescue equipment as part of their annual meet and greet day on Saturday 25 July from 10am - 4pm. There will also be gifts and souvenirs for sale, refreshments, food from The Tapas Kitchen, classic cars and a miniature steam railway.

• A vibrant collection of contemporary pieces, from artists working with paint, printmaking and porcelain is on at the LAKE gallery on Grange Road in West Kirby until 8 August. The gallery is open Thurs – Sat, 10am – 4pm.
