Middleburg, VA gives serious Stars Hollow vibes. You can’t go wrong wandering down the two main streets filled with quaint shops and restaurants, many of which are woven with nods to Virginia horse country. We did some preliminary research in previous years and here’s what we found!
King Street Oyster Bar - for a generous plate of crisp oysters and easy eats. One of the more popular spots in town.
Hunter’s Head - close option to the show, cozy pub fare
The Market at Bluewater Kitchen - a mix of hot order items and grab&go, 5 min from the horse show, the “super-duper food salad” is randomly memorable from years past
Middleburg deli - for an easy sandwich to go (I hear the “California Cruiser” is the best, especially if you’re veg-forward)
Gold cup wine bar @ the Salamander - for a great sushi fix and Nutella chip ice cream
Field & main - yummy farm-to-table eats, with a good bar reserved for “walk ins”
Tremolo - wine bar and small plates
Knead Wine / Pizza - will report back soon, apparently has great pizza and cookies
The Upper Crust bakery - the best in town
The Rail Stop - from a trusted local, “a good martini and fresh food”
We love activities
Middleburg Books - we looove a good bookstore, this one is super cute and has a great browsing selection
Great Country Farms - this scenic farm is the ideal way to kill an afternoon, especially with kids. There’s strawberry picking, a barn yard with baby goats, piglets, chickens, etc., and the Knead It Bakery (hello apple cider donuts)
Dirt Farm Brewing - situated within Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm stands out for its gorg views and variety of offerings, including beer + wine tastings and hikes through the vineyard.
To stay:
Salamander Resort - by far the most luxurious option in the area, with a spa and a couple solid restaurants.
Red Fox Inn - we’ve heard good things (about the stay and the pub specifically). A mix of rooms and cottages.
Goodstone Inn - a collection of boutique cottages spread across 200+ acres of Virginia countryside.
We’ve previously had the most luck with Airbnbs in the area, though book early for the best finds.
Stay tuned, this week we’ll be checking out:
Trinity Thrift and Boutique
Grandeur Antiques, Paradise Antiques
Thaiverse
Native Barre - downtown
Bedford Lee Shop - adorable new home shop opened last year
