Background:
A man was introduced to a woman through a matchmaking arrangement strongly encouraged by her parents. The woman’s family appeared extremely eager and actively pushed the two of them to continue seeing each other.
Because the woman’s parents seemed so enthusiastic about the match, the man cast a hexagram to ask how the relationship would develop.
Hexagram obtained: Kui to Da You.
Judgment:
This hexagram showed a matchmaking relationship that remained superficial and was marked by incompatible perspectives. Although the woman’s parents actively promoted the relationship, the woman herself was passive and resistant. Communication between the two remained distant, and they ultimately ended the relationship politely and returned to their previous lives.
1. The broad image: Kui transforming to Da You showed separation in outlook and a polite ending
The main hexagram, 38.Kui, carries the images of estrangement, disagreement, and opposing perspectives.
Although the transformed hexagram, 14.Da You, is generally considered auspicious, it is also a Returning Soul hexagram. In a relationship reading, this pointed more toward both sides returning to their previous lives and ending the matter politely rather than developing a lasting relationship.
2. The host line fluctuated: the man’s attitude was unstable
The fourth-line descendants K metal held the host line and represented the male querent.
K metal was in a dead state in the F month, but it received generation and support from the L day.
This showed that the querent’s overall condition fluctuated. His attitude toward the relationship also changed repeatedly during their interactions: at times he felt positive, while at other times he became doubtful or discouraged.
3. The woman’s parents were eager to push the relationship forward
The corresponding line was parents F fire, which coincided with the F month and was therefore extremely prosperous and supportive.
In relationship readings, the parents line often represents family elders. The prosperous parents line on the corresponding side directly reflected the eagerness of the woman’s parents to promote the relationship.

In this hexagram, the wife and wealth significator god was hidden rather than openly present. This already carried the image of avoidance, passivity, and unwillingness to reveal her true feelings.

This showed that the woman was inwardly resistant to the relationship. In reality, she maintained only superficial contact, largely out of politeness, and lacked any genuine motivation to develop the relationship further.
5. Communication was clearly obstructed: Vermilion Bird and White Tiger faced each other
Vermilion Bird and White Tiger aligned respectively with the host and corresponding lines.
In interpersonal interaction, this combination often indicates an uncomfortable conversational atmosphere, communication barriers, and responses that feel cold or unreceptive.
This showed that the two people found it difficult to communicate naturally or develop emotional closeness.
6. Pressure from peers and the surrounding environment: the siblings line was solitary active
The second-line siblings B earth was solitary active.
In relationship divination, an active siblings line overcoming the wife and wealth line is generally unfavorable.
At first, this could be interpreted as another romantic competitor interfering with the relationship. However, after reviewing the case, it was more likely to represent psychological pressure arising from peers, social expectations, or the surrounding environment.
