Welcome to the second week of August, friends! It’s a busy week for me, and I’m also excited to meet up with some of you in the city. We’ve officially arrived in NYC, so I guess I’m in my “Carrie Bradshaw” era. Only instead of writing about just about relationships, I’m over here slinging patio curtains, waxing on about aspirational clutter, and dishing on the trendiest autumn manicure colors (all stories I’m working on this week.)

Yes, a huge part of obtaining earned media involves an excellent reporter-PR relationship—where the reporter trusts the PR person to have vetted their experts, offered them some media training, and doesn’t put their deadline at risk. Way more goes into it, though.
Ahead, I’m discussing what makes someone a go-to expert for journalists, including what the heck we’re Googling and what details give us assurance before we move forward with an interview. I’m also discussing things that make us hesitate or say no outright.
