We moved into our new home on April 1st and I really thought the limbo period was over at last. It had taken six months to sell our house in France, pack it up then relocate husband, me, cat and dog back to England. That might not sound like a long time, but it seemed to tick by very slowly. Something that complicated is a process and I had to keep reminding myself that processes take time and I would have no control over the speed of it.

It was a waiting game as all the cogs slowly turned until everything aligned and we could leave France and head home to England. We spent two months in a delightful temporary home waiting for the cogs to turn again and the sale to go through on our new Cotswolds home and when that happened I prayed this would mark the end of limbo living. But fate had another plan, I’d have to wait a bit longer.

Much of the Cotswolds is plagued with bad mobile phone signal and for me that means none at all. I rely on Wi-Fi calling but for that to work we needed internet and that didn’t arrive for three weeks… I don’t think I’ve ever been out of communication for that long before. It made me feel very cut off – especially from Substack which has become my window on to the world as well as my mouthpiece. But it seems I’m beginning to learn some patience and in the end I appreciated the lack of outside interference and the chance to spend my evenings reading and getting stuck into writing my novel.

As the date of installation drew near it was like watching the light at the end of a tunnel getting bigger and bigger. I began to look forward to a few Zoom sessions, WhatsApp-ing friends and family and accessing Substack regularly again.

I know the world has kept on turning without my input and my feet are planted firmly enough on the ground to realise hardly anyone will have missed me, but today I’m so pleased to tell you that I’m back. Hello again world..!
