Portland really has it all. It’s walkable, the restaurants are fantastic, you’re on the ocean, and it offers coastal New England vibes without the associated snobbery.
Just typing that sentence makes me want to return.
I visited Portland on a girls’ trip with five other food-and-fun-loving ladies, and it was perfection. We had three nights, which was just the right amount of time to explore.
That said, I think Portland is a great fit for a couples trip, or as a family if your kids are college-age or older.
In true Well Plated style, every restaurant on this list is A+++. I feel confident in my recs not only because my company approved (we are all food bloggers), but because as a collective we managed to order basically the entire menu everywhere we went, so I had a considerable sample size.
Cheers to an excellent brunch at Crown Jewel. We arrived via boat!
Wayside Tavern. “Tavern” is deceptive, because everything that came out of this kitchen was excellent. The dishes are elevated without being snobby. Family style is the move here. Everything was excellent, especially the chicken (I know! chicken in a restaurant; it is that good), steak, and halibut. Focaccia is a must.
I’m not kidding when I say we ordered nearly the entire menu at Wayside Tavern.
