Welcome to the Party · Welcome to the Substack Party

Heyyy Party People!

Thanks for being with us here at the Substack Party.
Julie here: We kicked off this week with Abigail’s birthday!

And we compiled a nice list of things we all love about her. Please enjoy (AND please feel free to add your own in the comments).

  1. She is Undefeated in Minute to Win It (do we love that?)

  2. Will help anyone plan a trip or book last minute flights

  3. Our resident tech nerd - can fix anything

  4. Will wear all of Julie’s silly costumes and hats - no questions asked

  5. Loves being a Mom more than almost anything on the planet

  6. Her fandom for people and teams she likes

  7. Always wants to donate to our guests’ charities

  8. Her passion for music

  9. Her openness to try new things

  10. Her deep love and commitment to being the best partner to Glennon

  11. Her Savvy business sense

  12. Her sick glitter tennis shoes she wears to fancy occasions

  13. How she embraces any ridiculous scenario Julie puts her in

  14. Her over the top, fun competitive nature in all aspects of life

  15. Her willingness to be open about her shortcomings - even though there aren’t many

  16. How her maternal side comes out for all those she loves - not just her own family

  17. Her on-going desire to celebrate and lift others around her up

  18. How often she says ‘I love that so much”

  24. Her ability to go with the flow and not stress… “there are no podcast emergencies”

  25. Her joy of graduations and celebrations

  26. She is a lifelong learner

  27. How she stands up for what’s right & gives voice to those who don’t have one. Her bravery makes me (Julie) braver.

  28. SHE CAN SOLVE ANYTHING. Best problem solver on this planet.

  29. Her ability to end/wrap group zooms in the flash of a second.

  30. She makes you believe you can do anything.

  31. She is one of the most loyal and thoughtful humans I know.

  32. Her infatuation w/ Love Island

  33. Her RSK- random shit knowledge- is thru the roof. (Peptides, hormones, stitches, electric cars, smokers, recipes, data, oh my gosh, data for days…)

  34. The genuine love and care she has for our team (best boss eva)

  35. People love how fiercely she shows up for others. She doesn’t just talk about empowerment; she pushes people to take up space, use their voice, and lead unapologetically

  36. She is the only one in her house who keeps the kitchen sink clean

  37. makes people feel like ambition and vulnerability can exist at the same time. She makes vulnerability feel powerful instead of weak

  38. She takes a nap every day

  39. Her love of golf

  40. Her ability to create space for people to feel safe, seen and heard

  45. Her openness about her struggles, mental health, and recovery helps people feel less alone.

  46. Her eagerness to master ad reads

I can’t wait to see Abs try and top that for my birthday!

Abby here: You know I love a good competition! *cough* Refer back to item #1 on the birthday list *cough*. But something you might not know about me? I LOVE Whitney Houston. It came up so many times this week that, welp, just enjoy this video from our LIVE event at the Ally house for USWO. We had so much fun!

Julie here: Why was I so locked in on that convo? Also, just a reminder, that if you’re in LA, please come join us IRL for our next live event with Airbnb.

Party people, come joins us to watch Team USA take on Australia on the big screen in LA on June 19th from 11-2:30. Get your tickets: http://airbnb.com/abby-and-julie-jun19

Also, if you’re a listener of the podcast, you probably already know that Abigail also loves doing content meetings for Welcome to the Party, but our brilliant production team thought we should give you a peep behind the curtain to show you why:

This week’s important content call discussions included:

• Abby and Julie spent the opening minutes comparing Goodr sunglasses and discussing which family members steal them first.

• Abby’s son Chase apparently wants to host a “bleach our whites together” tub party after seeing a viral laundry hack. We are not currently seeking sponsors in this category, but we’re listening.

• Julie is deeply concerned audience members may swat away her golf balls during a live competition in an effort to help Abby win. This concern was expressed with complete sincerity.

• Abby suggested a future Party Starter on “micro-feminisms.” Julie immediately countered with stories from elderly women at a retirement home delivering comedy gold. One woman’s explanation for why she avoids drinking: “My legs don’t swell. They spread.”

• Julie’s son Declan pitched himself as the podcast’s official men’s sports correspondent and then asked what DEI means.

• A serious conversation about sponsors somehow turned into a debate over neon green wiffle balls, wearable basketball hoops, and whether Abby and Julie should challenge three men from another podcast to a golf showdown.

• Abby’s review of the content call: “I swear to God our content calls could be their own show.” Nobody disagreed

This week while we were recording with BJK her lights went out! You know what she did? She opened the blinds and said, “Champions adjust and adapt.” (mic drop)

If you haven’t listened to this one yet, you’re going to want to race on over for a feel good time. Racing trailblazer Katherine Legge joins the party fresh off her attempt at one of the most grueling challenges in all of sports: racing both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

Hear what she loves about racing, what she’d love to see change about the sport, and why she decided to try one of the most dangerous challenges behind the wheel. We are sweating just thinking about it!

Next, we are joined by Kinger’s brilliant wife Ilana Kloss to chat about Serena Williams’ return.

And we dive into the major player protest at Roland-Garros, and why top tennis stars are pushing for a bigger share of Grand Slam revenue.

Billie and Ilana see this fight as part of a much bigger battle for player power, pensions, health care, and a seat at the table.

We got such a nice collection of Abby b-day shoutouts. Thank you all for listening, loving and partying with us!

And finally. People, it’s time to get serious. Grab a can of your favorite beverage and festive coozie cause we’ve got sports to watch!
