Nissan has announced a new metaverse platform that blends automotive history with road safety education.
‘The Nissan Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio’ provides a virtual space to explore iconic vehicles from the company’s storied past while learning vital driving skills.
Three iconic models are featured in the metaverse:
🏎️ Silvia Q's S13 (popular in the drift community)
🏎️ Skyline 2000GTX-E (famous from video games and movies)
🏎️ 1950s/60s American car in a diner setting
The experience includes learning about pedestrian visibility, driver field of view and distracted driving, and a hands-on steering wheel exercise.
Available on the Meta Quest virtual reality headset, the experience will join Nissan's previous metaverse offerings like virtual test drives.
Blockchain is the foundational technology behind Web3. It's a decentralized, distributed digital ledger that records each interaction in a secure, transparent and immutable way.
However, Nissan’s metaverse is like Roblox. It’s not on blockchain. But what would be different if it was?
Let’s think of some examples:
🟣 Users could earn on-chain certificates or badges for completing road safety courses, creating a verifiable record of their virtual training. These credentials could be recognized by insurance providers or employers.
🟣 A fan token could incentivize participation, enabling rewards, and facilitating a passionate community of brand advocates in the close-knit Web3 community.
We already know branded virtual experiences like this immersive automotive heritage showcase can effectively increase brand awareness & affinity among younger audiences.
What’s interesting in this case is the concept around the built digital experience.
Nissan can capture user training data within the virtual environment and provide verifiable records to demonstrate compliance with driver education regulations & safety standards.
The data insights gathered from user interactions and virtual behaviors can inform product design decisions, allowing Nissan to build even better cars.
Aiming to unite and elevate the anime community, Arbitrum Foundation (a major blockchain) has allied with Azuki (an NFT community) and Web3 Foundation to launch AnimeChain.
AnimeChain is set to be released as a blockchain focused on fostering collaboration between anime/manga creators, studios, and fans, and helping to create new economies across different IPs.
You can think of it as an anime ecosystem with its own economy and creators.
Even though the number of anime fans globally is estimated to be over 100 million, there are many IPs, which help anime be diverse, but also fragmented, lacking a cohesive community and creating challenges around collaboration.
AnimeChain uses blockchain to fix the anime world's biggest puzzle: bringing different stories and fans together.
🟣 Shared Universe
Imagine if characters from separate animes could team up.
Blockchain makes handling rights and permissions between them easier, so the highly anticipated crossovers can happen smoothly.
🟣 Interactive Stories
Fans can't usually change the anime plot, but with AnimeChain, they could vote on storylines using secure blockchain tech.
Voting becomes trustless and participation can be done with verified ownership rights.
🟣 One-Stop Shop
Instead of hunting down merch, fans can use AnimeChain to buy all sorts of anime goods in one place, with the blockchain keeping track of it all honestly and fairly.
🟣 Access for All
AnimeChain could make special episodes available worldwide without the usual regional locks, bringing fans closer to the content they love.
For brands, the decision around which blockchain to build on is an important one and has a huge number of considerations, across technology, marketing, community, financial etc.
The question now, with these use case specific chains appearing is, would your brand benefit from participating in this type of chain? 🤔
A good example of this is Aura Blockchain.
Aura is a chain which focuses fashion, and luxury goods vertically, with participation from LVMH, Mercedes-Benz, Prada Group, Cartier and many more.
They enable a whole range of use cases from proving authenticity with product passports to customer engagement with NFT campaigns.
For brands, building on a vertical specific chain such as Aura brings them:
🟣 Achieve status, proving themselves as a core player in that vertical
🟣 Build where the community is strongest. As these specific chains can more easily foster a stronger community around their niche, brands can find users more easily
🟣 If the brand chooses, they can build interconnected stories and products collaboratively
As the blockchain wars continue, we may well see chains become more use case specific and brands choose based on the vertical that best fits with their mission.
This week’s news shows us a glimpse of how brands can blend fun, digital surprises with the things we love while cutting costs, making headlines, and creating sustainable ecosystems.
The question is not which brands will come to Web3.
52% of Fortune 100 brands are in space now. The question is which will set the benchmark for others.
