Rendition vs Deportation

Politicians and media are all using the term “deportation” by default, but what we’re seeing unfold in the U.S. is something else, something that has a different name. We should be using appropriate words in a time of intense propaganda and newspeak.

General comparison of deportation, rendition, and extraordinary rendition

If the legal process is bypassed, it’s not immigration, “mass” or otherwise. It’s either rendition or extraordinary rendition. Media sources, at the very least, should be using the correct terms and occasionally explaining why.

It’s also useful to recognize how the words, “war,” “terrorism,” and “terrorist” are employed to justify and/or rationalize extralegal activities by a government.
