Chris Cain · Slow Descent Into Radness

Peeping Toms is where we offer a nice, unobstructed listen to never-before-heard music from our recent and sometimes distant past. It’s a series of hot reveals, too hot for most to handle. We’re dropping the wall on today’s episode for a few days to give you a feel — throw your arms around it and decide whether you can stand the pleasure. ❤️‍🔥 To access the growing Peeping Toms archive, upgrade your subscription here.

Remember your first CRUSH? Your first LOVE? The first time you lay on your bed staring into the dark, hot-blooded and HAUNTED by the spirit of someone else?

These two songs were written back in 2020, during the great Pandemic Creativity Boom (PCB) that fed, like a mighty rainfall, into the twin oceans of Huffy and Lobes. Both songs, when the clouds parted and the bright refining sun of Track Selection blazed down onto the land, evaporated. But a twisted, minor god, one obsessed with collection, with completion, captured their vapor. He stored it, perhaps in a balloon. He presents it to you today. (Call him Peeping Tom.)

Florida ‘91 puts “necking” back on the map, where it belongs. I want to know what stupid record the protagonist put on, sitting there on his crush’s parents’ couch. And just once, I want him to grab her arm on the way out the door.

I’m still happy with the phrase “tremors of intention” in It Follows, a direct lift from the magnificent Anthony Burgess spy novel Tremor of Intent. I’m not exactly sure what I meant by it, but I think I kind of sort of know, or at least I used to.

May we all suffer that weakness, the fevered mind, the hollow gut, that renders us flimsy and complete.
