“Living in Yemen, a country affected by war, instability, and economic hardship, I could not ignore the question of whether it would be fair to bring a child into such circumstances. After much reflection, I concluded that remaining childfree was the choice most consistent with my values.

The reaction from my family, friends, and community was difficult. In my society, motherhood is often seen as an essential part of being a woman. Some people viewed my decision as selfish, while others believed I would eventually regret it. The pressure was intense, and my marriage ended because my former husband wanted children while I did not.

What I enjoy most about my childfree life is the freedom to shape my future according to my own priorities. I have more time for learning, personal growth, and supporting the people around me. At the same time, there are challenges. It can be lonely when society assumes that everyone should want the same path, and it is painful when a woman’s worth is measured by her ability to become a mother.

Have I ever regretted my decision? No. I have sometimes wondered what a different life might have looked like, but curiosity is not regret. I remain confident that I made the right choice for myself.

Over the years, I built a chosen family of friends who respect my decisions and value me for who I am. They have shown me that meaningful connections are not limited to traditional family structures.

For me, being childfree means living authentically and taking responsibility for my own choices. It has given me freedom, peace of mind, and the opportunity to build a life that reflects my beliefs rather than society’s expectations.”⁠
