Hello all, sorry for the break in transmission; it’s just been too flippin’ hot! Keep reading for new event dates, meanwhile...I’ve been out and about, and inevitably looking at architecture. Cardiff and London delivered several buildings by architects who influenced Nottingham’s most flamboyant architect, Watson Fothergill. Castel Coch & Cardiff Castle Clock Tower by William Burges, St Pancras Midland Hotel by G.G. Scott, Old St Pancras Church (is that some nogging?) and the fantastic All Saints Church, Margaret Street, London, by William Butterfield.
Unfortunately, I had to cancel the last couple of tours - because there was an “Orange Heat Warning”. Have you done the tour already? If you enjoyed it, please tell your friends! There’s a date coming up for the Watson Fothergill Walk on Thursday 23 July, 6 pm.
This Sunday (12 July) marks the 185th anniversary of Fothergill’s birth. Instead of a tour, I’ll be presenting a new illustrated talk on some of the Watson Fothergill buildings beyond the route of the Watson Fothergill Walk and some of the interiors of the buildings on the tour. I’ve been busy researching and visiting the buildings collecting more photos and more stories.
