I’m reaching out outside of our regular scheduled programming to let you know that Classic Harbor Line is running a special deal for people who live in the New York City area. That’s a substantial savings, and as good a deal as you’re likely to get on these tours.
I think Classic Harbor Line’s tours are a pretty good deal as-is. You get a beer or wine with your ticket, as well as food, and the boats are beautiful. We keep them cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. I also feel pretty strongly, as someone who has gone on his fair share of tours here in NYC and elsewhere (and has led his share of tours, many of them great, and some of them that could’ve gone better), that the quality of our programming is very high! But the trips cost about a hundred bucks, and a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. It’s not an amount of money that just anyone can spend on a whim.
If you’ve been wanting to come out on these, but have been hesitating because of the ticket price, these next few trips in the final stretch of NYC’s summer are for you! We have three left this summer, all of them departing on Sunday evenings. It’s a fun time of year to get out on the water along these islands because lots of the wading birds are poking around a little more, and exploring the areas around the rookeries where they were born.

Length: 1 mile
A walk along the Newtown Creek Nature Trail and around the local wastewater treatment plant in search of swallows, gulls, starlings and other animals that get by on the odd opportunities that the sewage treatment process presents to wildlife.

Start: Pier 26
End: Pier 40
Length: 1 mile
A look at the urban ecology of the city’s watery edges, this tour begins near the Pier 26 Tide Deck, which is a recent attempt to recreate a sliver of Manhattan’s bygone tidal shoreline habitat, and makes its way uptown towards the Hudson River Park Wet Lab, where participants will get to look at some of the wildlife that currently resides amid New York City’s current shoreline environment of piers and pilings.
