Researchers are now openly asking whether it’s “time to reframe our approach to veteran suicide prevention” — moving away from a purely clinical model and toward one built on connection and purpose. Younger veterans without a spouse or kids are dying at higher rates than older ones. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for vets under 45. The overall veteran suicide rate is still nearly double the civilian rate.
