Bruce Barron has a nice essay involving The Christian Past That Wasn’t at his Substack. On America’s Mythical Past

Rick Pidcock at Baptist News Global posted my interview with him on Tim and David Barton’s faulty history of the Declaration of Independence.

In case you didn’t see it, here is Kristin Du Mez’s recommendation to get The Christian Past That Wasn’t along with a lengthy excerpt from the book.

Jemar Tisby also recommended the book here and provided a wonderful explanation of the concept that the U.S. is not a Christian nation in his podcast The Justice Briefing.

Jemar also has a fine essay on patriotism on his Substack.

John Fea’s thoughts on providence as conceived by George Washington with big help from historian Heather Cox Richardson.

If you haven’t listened to my newest episode of The Christian Past That Wasn’t podcast, I urge you to do so. It is one of the best in a long time. Texas Board of Education member Staci Childs Davis joins me to discuss the recent committee actions on race and social studies standards.

And from Chris Gehrz, a thoughtful essay on Christian patriotism. He cites Benedict Anderson’s book Imagined Communities which I cite in The Christian Past That Wasn’t. Chris has some helpful thoughts for Christian thinking through their dual citizenships.

Remember this is the 200th anniversary of the deaths of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams who died on July 4, 1826. Read about that and the strange role of Benjamin Rush in the whole thing.

And if you would like some podcast related music, here is the Spotify playlist of podcast tracks.

Keep the fireworks at a safe distance and enjoy the birthday bash! Happy 4th!
