When you are wounded, it hurts a lot.
The pain is unbearable.
There are tears in your eyes.
Blood coming out from the wound.
But slowly, the pain subsides.
The blood forms a lump.
After a few days, it drops off, leaving behind a pale skin color over what was the wound.
It feels like someone else’s skin.
After a few days, that too disappears and your skin comes back.
It doesn’t look as if there was ever a wound.
You have forgotten how it felt - the pain, the suffering, the blood.
But what if, when the wound was fresh and hurting, you began to scratch it?
It wouldn’t help, right?
Instead, it would make things worse.
The pain wouldn’t go away for long and the scratching would also leave a scar or a mark behind.
Nobody who is smart ever scratches a wound, while it is healing.
We just let it heal.
BUT we don’t do that in real life.
You see, when we fail, when we lose, when we go through a heartbreak, when we suffer - it hurts a lot. It pains.
There are tears in our eyes.
It feels like we are bleeding.
But slowly, the pain subsides. But if we give it time, that too disappears.
It changes us.
A new skin emerges - that doesn’t feel like its ours.
And we finally come back to who we were.
By then, we have forgotten how the loss felt, how the breakup felt, how the failure felt.
But what if, in an attempt to deal with the pain, we kept scratching the wound. The pain wouldn’t go away for long and the scratching would also leave a scar.
We kept repeating in our head - the loss, the suffering, the break up.
It wouldn’t help, right?
Instead, it would make things worse.
Reminding us of that pain, that loss, that break up - forever!
Why would we do that to ourselves?
How we deal with a wound is how we should deal with a loss.
Give it time to heal.

We were in Bangalore last weekend visiting friends.
This is Snehesh (my cofounder at nearbuy) and his family (Mayuri, Geet and Arshia).
It was Geet’s 18th birthday :))
We stayed at our friends’ new place - and they have done an incredible job building their lovely home.
(Me, Anoop, Ruchi, Prameet, Shipra, Mitika. We stayed at Anoop/Shipra’s house.)
Was at the founding batch convocation of the Scaler School of Business, Bangalore. Hearing the students narrate their experiences made me go back to my ISB days and how that 1 year fundamentally changed my life!
Punctuality isn’t about time management.
It is about respect.
A routine isn’t what someone else gives you, or what you copy from an Instagram reel or X article.
A routine is what you build for yourself - because it works for you.
There are words in our wardrobe that are Indian!
Dungarees - from Dongri, a neighborhood in Mumbai, where the thick cotton cloth was made for British sailors.
Bandana - from “bandhna,” meaning to tie.
Khaki - from “khak,” meaning dust or soil.
Last week I asked: Which Indian city got the country’s first airport?
The correct answer is NOT Delhi or Kolkata - it is Mumbai (Juhu Airport).
Around 700 people got this answer right.
The lucky winner last week is Paridhi Agarwal (pari***cs@gmail.com)
Reply with your answer, and I will pick one random winner with the right answer.
They will get a signed copy of a book of mine :))
