KNICKS IN FOUR!

While running around town today, I found myself declaring this mantra to almost everyone I encountered. As a native New Yorker, born in Manhattan, I’m absolutely giddy that the New York Knicks are finally back in the NBA Finals — it’s been a heartbreaking 27 years since their last appearance. And they haven’t won the NBA Championship since a subway ride cost 35 cents back in 1973.

Yeah, it’s been a long road.

Now, I don’t proclaim to be a Knicks superfan, but, like so many New Yorkers, I am completely caught up in the joy and excitement. In a city of more than 8 million people, and somehow twice as many opinions, we diverse denizens of the Big Apple are overwhelmingly united in cheering on the hometown team. People are singing and dancing in the streets. Strangers are hugging it out instead of raising fists. (Well, most are. There’s always going to be a few knuckleheads; it’s New York!)

If you’re rooting for the Knicks, raise a glass of New York wine. Not only is the Empire State the USA’s third-largest wine producer, but the quality is excellent as well. From Riesling to Cabernet Franc, traditional method sparkling to Pét-Nat; vinifera to hybrids, we have it all.

A few of my favorite New York producers include Dr. Konstantin Frank, Little Clover, Macari Vineyards, Sparkling Pointe Vineyards & Winery, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, Channing Daughters, Red Tail Ridge, Ravines Wine Cellars, Weis Vineyards, Paumanok Vineyards, Rose Hill Vineyards, and many others. Visit the New York Wine & Grape Foundation to learn more about NY wines. And if your local bottle shop isn’t stocking New York wines, tell them to get their act together.

Knicks in four! New York wines forever!
