hey wababaheads! (that’s how a person at the hartland farmer’s market recently identified themselves, which delighted me.) how’s your summer going?
i’ve been hesitant to write because mine has been both busy and contemplative. i’ve been dipping my toes into different ideas and spending loads of brain power considering where i want to go and what i want to do next.
wababaland started as an act of self-care: the result of me finally taking the small voice in my head seriously. i had (and have) no grand plan, and find it both scary and awkward to share when i feel like i’m in the middle of something...but then, aren’t we always in the middle of something?
so here’s what i’ve been up to:
- helping out with the baking a few mornings a week at abracadabra! it’s been a fulfilling experience connecting with other bakers and working in a bigger kitchen, and the routine and quiet of the early morning is so meditative.
- hosting my aunt and uncle from china for dinner at our house! it’s their first time visiting the us so it felt imperative to cook for them.
- testing my first wedding cake!!! it’s beyond a dream come true to meet and collaborate with like-minded people, and dreaming up ideas and flavors for this was such a creative high.
- getting to know more of my neighbors at the hartland farmer’s market! admittedly, this market has been tough because it can be pretty quiet, but it’s still been lovely to meet people and try ideas that are more suited to smaller volumes.
- and of course, still frequenting the norwich farmer’s market, but as a hungry customer :)
on that note, hopefully you made it this far to find out that i will be at the norwich market this saturday, aug 9! i haven’t made an appearance as a vendor since a very rainy saturday back in may, so i’m really looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones!
i’ll have my usuals: market cookies, buckwheat chocolate madeleines, lychee shortbreads, and everything focaccia - and i’ll also have some experimental summery basil shortbread as well as lychee lemonade that will come in a special wababaland bottle 👀
