That’s not just a personal preference, it’s a policy question. And Johnson County has an answer worth knowing about.
The county’s Minor Home Rehabilitation program offers grants to eligible homeowners to repair or modify their homes as they age. Accessibility upgrades. Safety repairs. The kind of changes that make “staying home” actually possible.
Here’s the civic conversation embedded in this: who gets to age in place with dignity?
Too often the answer is “people who can afford to.” This program pushes back on that. Income limits apply, and it doesn’t currently serve Olathe or Lenexa, but for those it does reach, it’s a meaningful difference.
