While I usually focus on the economics of Haiti and the rest of the Caribbean, this post is a little bleg.
The short story is that I was planning on spending the next academic year in the Dominican Republic working on research. But due to the turmoil in the Trump administration, it looks like that opportunity is gone.
Since the readership of this newsletter is interested in Caribbean issues, I thought I’d turn to you.
I’m open to think tanks and universities. Or if you think there’s an opportunity I should be looking at outside of that, I’m open to it. I’m particularly interested in being around the Haitian diaspora, so Dominican Republic and Chile would be high on my list. But maybe I’m thinking too narrowly. If you know of anything, I’m open to ideas.
To be clear, I very much still have my job. If nothing works out for sabbatical, I’ll just continue teaching. But this sabbatical opportunity is a narrow window and can contribute to my research and teaching, so I’d love to take advantage of it.
