Frank Beard was not the first drummer to sit at the kit for the band called ZZ Top. That gentleman was Dennis Mitchell. But once in the mix, Mr. Beard (the only member of the trio who did not sport chin whiskers) was the metronome of the band’s guitar-driven Texas blues fusion for a solid 56 years. With bass player, Dusty Hill, already gone in 2021, Billy Gibbons is the last of Tres Hombres. I first saw the band in the summer of 1976 at San Diego Stadium on their Worldwide Texas Tour. Opening acts were Blue Oyster Cult and Johnny & Edgar Winter. Vivid recollection of the live Longhorn tethered to one side of the stage. Sad to send Frank to the ultimate Hall of Fame, but the music will live on forever. Hot, Blue and Righteous

Back to the world of volatility, we’re dropping this post as a placeholder because I have to see my dermatologist at the crack of dawn tomorrow. It can wait based on what I’m seeing. If I only had one vol-related chart to rely on, it would be this one of VIXM:VIXY. It says you should be happy and not worry.

Some of you may not know much about the Little Old Band From Texas. If you enjoy blues-rock, I would recommend giving a listen to any of the early albums. Tres Hombres is my personal go-to because La Grange, Waitin’ for the Bus and Jesus Just Left Chicago were on the setlist for one of my bands back in the day. I may have played a red Gretsch Billy Bo for added authenticity.
