I’m in DC for a couple days to report on Trump’s Freedom 250 shenanigans. Tomorrow I’ll be covering his “AMERICA IS BACK” Kick off celebration for Great American State Fair where he’ll be speaking. But earlier Tuesday I decided to check out the algae situation at the Reflecting Pool.
Well, the water is clearer thanks to hundreds of gallons of chemicals (RFKJr must have loved it), park employees cleaning the paint/liner and large hoses releasing ozone into the pool. It’s loud as hell thanks to the non-stop generators for the ozone pumps.
The pumps are run Greenwater Services of Brookfield, Ohio. Last week the New York Times reported that the $1.7 million contract for cleaning “shows that the National Park Service bypassed the competitive-bidding process that is typically required...”
Like everything else with this boondoggle, the contract and of course the money when to a man who donated regularly to Trump and is a neighbor to his Mara Lago resort.
The Pool itself is not in any better shape than this nation. It’s damaged, peeling and in spots torn from the President trying to give it a cheaply done paint job. It’s a metaphor, I tell ya.
Let’s really hammer that metaphor and talk about the fact that Trump has turned it into a little police state with cameras everywhere, National Guard in full camo standing by ready to arrest or yell at anyone that dares to touch the water. I got scolded after my watch dropped into the pool and I retrieved it. Thankfully the Guardsman saw me drop something but that didn’t stop from from walking over to have a stern talk. I asked him why it was such an issue, he mentioned chemicals. Sigh.
I got off lucky. There have been multiple arrests as Trump claims “vandalism.” You can see from the photos above that there was no vandalism - his cronies that got the contract to paint the pool (a stupid idea to begin with) did a shit job. Now, like everything else he’s made it “Antifa’s” fault, called in his national police forces and attacked anyone he can. Where have we seen this before?
Honestly, I say let it go back to a swamp. Put in some koi, some lily pads and embrace the algae. There’s some people that would agree - “Team Algae” in fact a couple of activists from the DC area one of which dresses in a frog costume. I spoke to her for Visu.News.
Team Algae wasn’t the only group that showed up to the Reflecting Pool - there were also the Front Row Joes, a MAGA group that got their name from always showing up SUPER early for Trump events to make sure they got right up front. They are a DEVOTED crew of people to their dear leader. So much that they have started calling Trump “Daddy.” Not ironically or sarcastically… they really see the man that couldn’t be bothered to go to his own sons wedding as a father figure. I spoke with Tien Tran a die hard Trump supporter who I met years ago at CPAC where he was dressed as a King Trump, with regalia and a crown. This time he just had a simple cowboy hat but his devotion to the President hasn’t let up.
Team Algae and the Daddy Trump supporters shared the same space for a little bit, thankfully with no huge issues.
