7/10
Published in 2014 by B.J. Novak.
I was surprised when Jin said he purchased a BJ Novak novel. I had him confirm it was the guy from The Office, which I think is a very common response from anyone seeing the book. It’s a series of short stories, most all comedic—some allegorical.
I found the stories to be very hit-or-miss though; there were plenty of them which I didn’t care for at all, especially (most of) the shortest one-page stories, but others which I enjoyed a lot. Hence the 7/10. I’d prefer a leaner version with some of the mediocre ones culled to make way for the others. To be fair, it already was a lithe read, but trimming the fat wouldn’t hurt it in my opinion.
There’s not much to say about it honestly. The comedy is very good when it works, and meh when it doesn’t; it’s well worth picking up to power through.
