Do you remember this 'must have' dress?

I’m on leave and doing a huge clear out of clothes - some I’m Vinting (now a verb), others I’m taking to the charity shop. (By the way does anyone else get as stressed as me when they sell something on Vinted? I can’t relax for a second until I’ve posted the item to the buyer)

In my house there are six wardrobes full of my clothes and shoes. I know. I’m a disgrace. Optimistically I convince myself that stuff will come back into fashion, and occasionally it does. Sometimes things I’ve bought never went out of fashion - as I write this now, I’m wearing a red and white spotted sundress from Warehouse which I bought perhaps twenty years ago.

During my clear-out I came across this divine ‘cosmic’ dress which is almost ten years old. I bought it online from Marks and Spencer in late summer, 2017. I had zero idea it would become one of their best sellers - the ‘dress of the season’ apparently.

The headline in the Daily Mail said it sent shoppers wild as they tried to get their hands on one….

And I admit I was thrilled when it noted I’d worn it on my TV show

How could a polyester dress costing £45 have become one of the most desirable items of clothing that year? Because it was simple, drop waisted with a pleated skirt and long fluted sleeves - and whatever size you were it looked graceful. But mostly because the white stars, planets and constellations against a midnight blue background was just so utterly charming.

On Vinted there are six or seven listed - and I’ve just checked on Ebay where one is on sale for £93 (ahem). I’m keeping mine…you never know when it might end up back in fashion.
